Israel to send delegation to Cairo hostage talks as Biden touts push for 6-week pause

Israel will send a delegation to Cairo for talks on a framework to release hostages and achieve an extended pause, following pressure from the US. The framework was hammered out in Paris last month by officials from the US, Egypt, Qatar, and Israel. Israel has been willing to accept talks based on the original Paris framework, which includes a three-phase humanitarian pause. The negotiations in Cairo come as Israel prepares an offensive on Rafah, Gaza's last Hamas stronghold, raising concerns that it could derail the hostage talks. The US has voiced opposition to the operation without a credible plan to protect civilians.
