Sami Michael, Iraqi-born and award-winning Israeli author and activist, dies at 97

Sami Michael, an award-winning Iraqi-Israeli author and activist, known for his focus on oppressed minorities and the challenges faced by Jews from Arab countries, has died at the age of 97. His characters shed light on the pains and challenges faced by Mizrahi Jews from the Middle East and North Africa, as well as his relationships with Israeli Arabs. Michael was critical of Israel's treatment of Palestinians and served as the president of the Association for Civil Rights in Israel for over two decades. He published more than 20 novels and children's books and won numerous literary awards.
