UTJ's Roth: 'No actual benefit' to Haredim in toppling government over yeshiva funds

Despite heated rhetoric, Israel's ultra-Orthodox parties are unlikely to leave Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's ruling coalition over a court ruling slashing funds for yeshivas, according to United Torah Judaism MK Moshe Roth. Roth explained that Netanyahu still has time to draft a law on ultra-Orthodox conscription that would be acceptable to the justices. The Haredi parties are unlikely to bring down the government over a purely fiscal matter, Roth indicated. The court ruling ended government funding for nearly 50,000 full-time Talmud students. Netanyahu has reportedly promised to promote a private bill exempting yeshiva students from military conscription.
