A rocket fired from Lebanon hit a major highway outside of Tel Aviv, injuring at least two people, as the Israeli military deployed troops into villages along the border, escalating the conflict with the Hezbollah terror group. The rocket fire targeted central Israel, the first salvo since the ground operation was announced. The Israel Defense Forces issued new restrictions, shutting schools and workplaces without adequate access to bomb shelters and limiting gatherings. Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the rocket attack and warned that it was just the beginning. Israeli military leaders had warned that the air campaign would likely be complemented by a ground-based offensive.
