Ex-MP who branded national anthem 'alienating' takes seat in Lords

Thangam Debbonaire, a former MP and ally of Keir Starmer, has taken her seat in the House of Lords. She lost her Bristol seat to the Green Party in the general election. Debbonaire, who previously branded Rule Britannia 'alienating', wore traditional scarlet robes for her introduction ceremony and swore allegiance to the King. She served in the shadow cabinet for four years and has been involved in various controversies, including claiming thousands of pounds for Arabic lessons and criticizing the green benches in the Commons as sexist.
