British graves badly damaged after Israel bombs Hamas tunnel

Hundreds of British soldiers' graves in Gaza have been badly damaged after Israeli airstrikes targeted a Hamas tunnel near the Commonwealth Gaza War Cemetery and another graveyard at Deir El Belah. The Israel Defence Forces discovered that Hamas had stored weaponry, including a missile launcher, within the cemetery grounds, prompting the strikes that caused significant destruction to headstones, memorials, and cemetery infrastructure. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission expressed deep concern over the damage, noting that around 10 percent of headstones at Deir El Belah were affected. The incident has drawn strong reactions ahead of Remembrance Sunday, with officials condemning the use of war graves for military purposes and the resulting harm to these historic sites.
