The fundraiser supporting McClintock claims he is a victim of a double standard regarding free speech, while many donors have shared troubling rhetoric. University officials and Portnoy have condemned the incident, highlighting concerns over rising antisemitism and the need for equal accountability for hate speech. This is not the first time Portnoy has been targeted with antisemitic abuse during public appearances.
