Pakistan has expressed willingness to join an international peace force in Gaza, following the recent United Nations Security Council approval of a stabilization plan. However, the country's deputy prime minister and foreign minister, Ishaq Dar, made it clear that Pakistan is not prepared to participate in any efforts to disarm Palestinian group Hamas, stating that such responsibilities should fall to Palestinian law enforcement agencies.
The proposed International Stabilization Force would be made up of troops from Muslim countries and is a key part of the plan for Gaza's transitional authority. While Pakistan voted in favor of the resolution, officials emphasized the need for a complete withdrawal of Israeli troops and reiterated support for Palestinian self-determination.
Discussions about the force's mandate and terms are ongoing, with other countries like Indonesia also expressing reservations about the disarmament clause. Pakistani officials have stressed that clarity is needed on several aspects of the plan, including the path to Palestinian statehood and the role of the United Nations, before committing troops.
