The head of the Defense Ministry's military research and development unit announced significant progress in addressing the threat of drones crossing Israel's borders. Speaking at the International DefenseTech Summit, Brigadier General Benny Aminov highlighted a recent technological breakthrough in enemy drone detection and ongoing work on interception solutions, including drone-based systems and new directed-energy weapons. He emphasized the need for the defense establishment to adapt its operational approach to respond quickly to evolving low-altitude threats and to foster collaboration between small defense technology companies and major contractors. Aminov also noted that adversaries are constantly adapting, which drives the development of robust solutions capable of countering both known and unforeseen threats. The challenge is underscored by ongoing attempts to use drones for smuggling weapons and drugs across the Egyptian border, which have proven difficult to detect and intercept.
