Harvard hires graduate filmed assaulting Israeli classmate at protest

Harvard University has hired Elom Tettey-Tamaklo, a former graduate student who was previously charged with assaulting an Israeli classmate during a pro-Palestine protest in October 2023. Tettey-Tamaklo, who graduated from Harvard Divinity School in May, now works as a Graduate Teaching Fellow, advising faculty and consulting on curriculum. The incident, captured in a viral video, led to misdemeanor charges for both Tettey-Tamaklo and fellow student Ibrahim Bharmal, which were dismissed after they completed a pretrial diversion program. Despite calls for disciplinary action from the White House and the victim, Harvard did not take further action against the men, drawing criticism from various quarters. Tettey-Tamaklo has publicly defended his activism and criticized the backlash he faced, while the university has faced a lawsuit from the assaulted student, alleging inadequate response to the incident.
