Hamas announced its willingness to relinquish its weapons in the Gaza Strip to a Palestinian authority, provided that the Israeli army ends its occupation of the territory. Khalil Al-Hayya, the group's chief negotiator in Gaza, stated that Hamas's arms are tied to the ongoing occupation and aggression, and would be handed over to the authority of a sovereign and independent Palestinian state if the occupation ceases.
Additionally, Hamas expressed acceptance of United Nations forces being deployed as a separation force to monitor the borders and ensure compliance with a ceasefire in Gaza. However, the group rejected the idea of an international force whose mission would be to disarm Hamas within the Strip.
