Major blow for Albo in shock new poll

A new national poll reveals a significant decline in support for Prime Minister Anthony Albanese following the Bondi terrorist attack, with both major parties losing ground to Pauline Hanson's One Nation. One Nation's primary vote has surged to 21 percent, tripling since the last election, as the party campaigns to cap Australia's net overseas migration. Labor's primary vote has dropped six points to 29 percent, while the Coalition has fallen to 25 percent and the Greens have risen slightly to 14 percent.

Personal approval ratings for Albanese have also taken a hit, with nearly half of voters disapproving of his leadership. Opposition Leader Sussan Ley faces similar challenges, with low approval and high disapproval ratings. The poll suggests One Nation could become a major challenger in dozens of seats, potentially overtaking either Labor or the Coalition.

The fallout comes as Albanese announced a federal royal commission into the Bondi attack after sustained pressure from victims' families and the Jewish community, following criticism of his initial reluctance to launch a national inquiry. The decision to appoint former High Court Justice Virginia Bell to lead the inquiry has also drawn attention within political circles.
