Saudi Arabia is positioning artificial intelligence as a central driver of economic diversification, with the government declaring 2026 the Year of Artificial Intelligence to accelerate national efforts. At the heart of this strategy is Humain, a state-backed company launched to build infrastructure, develop local intellectual property, and attract global talent and investment. Leaders say the goal is to move beyond symbolic commitments and deliver large-scale, measurable impact across the economy.

Government services, energy, smart cities, and healthcare are expected to see the most immediate transformation. Public institutions are already deploying automated citizen services and fraud detection tools, while the national energy company is using advanced systems for predictive maintenance and drilling optimization. Mega projects such as NEOM are serving as testing grounds for autonomous transport and predictive energy management, and hospitals are expanding the use of data-driven clinical support and remote monitoring.

The Kingdom is also investing heavily in digital infrastructure, data platforms, and advanced computing, supported by strong readiness among technology leaders to adopt new governance frameworks. Education reform and workforce development are key pillars of the plan, with new curricula, closer university-industry collaboration, and expanded training programs designed to align skills with labor market demand.

Challenges remain, including gaps in data literacy, integration of data into daily operations, and the need for responsible governance frameworks. Officials stress that rapid deployment, coordinated action across ministries, and sustained investment will be critical if artificial intelligence is to become a lasting engine of growth by the end of the decade.
