A California man pleaded not guilty to manslaughter and battery charges in the death of a Jewish man during a pro-Israel and pro-Palestinian demonstration. The suspect, Loay Alnaji, engaged in a physical confrontation with the victim, Paul Kessler, who fell and sustained blunt force head trauma. Alnaji pleaded not guilty and remains jailed on a $50,000 bond. Prosecutors did not find evidence of malice aforethought or intent to kill, and hate-crime charges were not supported by the evidence.
