Hong Kong researchers have found that digital games greatly impact children between 6 months and 12 years old, with both negative and positive effects on brain function. The researchers recommend that parents receive professional guidance in permitting programs that promote positive development, rather than imposing limits on screen time. The study analyzed 33 studies using neuroimaging technology to measure the impact of digital technology on young children's brains. It found that screen time leads to changes in the pre-frontal cortex, parietal lobe, temporal lobe, and occipital lobe of the brain. The researchers suggest that policymakers should promote programs that support positive brain development to help parents navigate the digital world.
