Former U.S. president Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalynn dedicated their lives to humanitarian efforts and built thousands of homes across the globe. Carter, elected in 1976, created The Carter Center and partnered with Habitat for Humanity to provide affordable housing. They helped build or renovate 4,390 homes across 15 countries. Carter also used his foreign affairs knowledge to mediate disputes and advise on international issues. Despite his declining health, Carter continued his work alongside his wife until her recent passing at the age of 96.
