A special 'innovation chapter' is needed in a UK-Gulf Cooperation Council trade deal to ensure that artificial intelligence (AI) developments do not create barriers to commerce, according to Britain's chief negotiator at the Department of Business and Trade. Tom Wintle expressed concerns about the pace of change in the technology sector and highlighted the importance of capturing innovation in the agreement. He also emphasized the need for legal certainty on electronic transactions, such as e-contracts and e-signatures, to cut costs and benefit small and medium enterprises. Wintle stated that both sides are working to secure an agreement that delivers for businesses.
