Bayanat and Yahsat are expanding their Earth observation space program by adding two synthetic aperture radar satellites to their fleet. With the help of program partner ICEYE, the expansion will allow for more frequent revisits to the Middle East, providing near real-time, high-definition images of on-the-ground conditions. SAR satellite images use radar signals to monitor specific locations on the Earth's surface day and night, through clouds, and multiple times per day. This technology has various applications, including detecting oil spills, monitoring maritime activities, and surveillance at ports. The expansion of the SAR satellite fleet is seen as a milestone for Bayanat, Yahsat, and the UAE as they aim to build a domestic SAR satellite industry and contribute to the UAE's space strategy.
