NY, Vermont, New Hampshire see record border crossings from Canada

New York, Vermont, and New Hampshire have experienced a surge in illegal border crossings from Canada, with numbers more than doubling from the previous year. Migrants are choosing to travel through Canada instead of Mexico to avoid detection. The Swanton Sector, which spans parts of New York, New Hampshire, and Vermont, has become a problematic hotspot due to Canada's lax laws. The area has seen a significant increase in illegal foot traffic, with over 3,100 people apprehended since October 2023. The long and understaffed U.S.-Canada border makes it difficult to prevent crossings entirely.
