Chinese TikTok sleuths say stately home full of Qing Dynasty antiques

Chinese internet sleuths on TikTok have accused the family seat of the 7th Marquess of Cholmondeley, Houghton Hall, of containing antique valuables looted from the Qing Dynasty. The accusations stem from images of the Grade I listed house that have gone viral on social media sites. The estate has denied the claims, stating that the items in question were purchased by the original owners of Houghton Hall during the 18th Century. The Sassoon family, ancestors of the Marquess, amassed a fortune in textiles, tea, and opium across India and China in the 19th Century.
