Grim Easter for Gaza's Christians as pilgrims shun Jerusalem

Members of the Catholic community in Gaza and Jerusalem celebrated a grim Easter as fighting continued in the region. In Gaza, around 100 people gathered at the Holy Family Church to mark the resurrection, while heavy combat raged nearby. In Jerusalem, the atmosphere was equally heavy, with few people at the sacred sites. The main Catholic Easter Sunday service at the Holy Sepulchre Church was not full. Pilgrims were staying away due to the suffering and death in Gaza. The war between Israel and Hamas has destroyed parts of Gaza and killed thousands of people.
