New Palestinian government gets wary greeting

Newly-appointed Palestinian prime minister Mohammed Mustafa has stated that his priority is ending the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza. The new Palestinian government, which includes both Gazans and four women, was sworn in on Sunday but is facing scepticism from its own people. President Mahmud Abbas is under pressure from the United States to undertake reforms and reunite the West Bank and Gaza Strip under a single rule after the war. The Palestinian Authority has had little influence over Gaza since Hamas took power in 2007. Many Palestinians doubt whether the new government can overcome divisions and effectively deal with post-war Gaza.
