Palestinians want April vote for full United Nations membership

The Palestinian Authority is seeking a vote in the United Nations Security Council this month to become a full member of the organization, a move that could be blocked by the United States. The application would need approval from the Security Council, where the US has veto power, and then at least two-thirds of the General Assembly's 193 members. The Palestinian envoy to the UN, Riyad Mansour, stated that the aim is for a decision to be made at an April 18 ministerial meeting. The push for UN membership comes as global pressure mounts for a two-state solution between Israel and Palestine.
