Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and Iran are reassessing their position in the war after being embarrassed by Yahya Sinwar's surprise attack on October 7. Tehran still believes that in an all-out war, Israel will deal a fatal blow to Hezbollah. However, there has been a dramatic change in Iran's position towards the war in recent months. Nasrallah longs for a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, while Iran wants the war to continue. If a general ceasefire agreement is reached, Nasrallah may comply and agree to retreat if there is a joint Israeli-American position. Israel and the United States must reach an early agreement to prevent Hezbollah from returning to the border.
