Posting pro-Palestine slogans on social media may prevent individuals from obtaining German citizenship, according to new stipulations in the citizenship law. The law, which came into effect in June, tightens requirements and excludes individuals who engage in racism, antisemitism, or any other form of misanthropy. The law also includes denial of the Holocaust and accusations against Jews or the State of Israel. The use of maps replacing Israel with the colors of the Palestinian flag is also considered in contravention of the law. German states have autonomy over naturalization, but typically follow the Federal Ministry of the Interior's application instructions.
