The owner of Nottingham Forest FC, Evangelos Marinakis, is suing a Greek football rival for over £2.1 million in a High Court libel claim over false allegations of match-fixing practices and other criminal activities. Marinakis denies the allegations made by Irini Karipidis, the owner of league rivals Aris, which were published on a website, social media, and mobile billboards. Lawyers for Karipidis argued that the case should be dismissed as an English court is not the most appropriate place for the claim. However, barristers for Marinakis stated that the allegations were completely untrue and that the case should proceed in an English court.
