Women and children scavenge for food in Gaza, UN official says

Large groups of women and children in the Gaza Strip are scavenging for food among piles of trash, according to a U.N. official. Ajith Sunghay expressed concern about the prevalence of hunger, even in areas where aid agencies are present. The U.N. has been unable to deliver aid to northern Gaza due to obstacles from Israeli authorities. Sunghay visited camps for people displaced from northern Gaza and witnessed severe food shortages and poor sanitation. He called for massive humanitarian aid to be allowed into the region.
