Recent research into dinosaur diets shows that the changing climate and vegetation paved the way for dinosaurs to dominate the Earth. The study used hundreds of fossils to compare nutrition dynamics across different periods. It found that as vegetation changed, new regions and environments emerged, leading to larger dinosaurs with different diets. The study also showed an increase in dinosaur diversity and eco-space occupancy as non-dinosaurs were replaced by dinosaurs that fed on both plants and animals. The emergence of theropods, dinosaurs that fed on fish and insects, contributed to this increase in diversity.
