The letter comes after the Trump administration canceled $400 million in grants and contracts to Columbia University due to its inaction in the face of harassment of Jewish students. The federal government stated that the University of Michigan and 59 other institutions are under investigation for potentially violating Title VI of the Civil Rights Act. The Department of Education is disappointed that Jewish students continue to fear for their safety on elite US campuses.
