Cody Balmer turned himself in and has been charged with attempted murder, arson, burglary, and terrorism. The attack on Shapiro's mansion bears similarities to a previous home invasion at Nancy Pelosi's residence. Violence and assassination attempts against elected politicians in the U.S. are rare but not unheard of.
