Pakistan is considering importing crude oil from the United States for the first time in an effort to address higher U.S. tariffs and reduce the trade imbalance between the two countries. The proposal is currently under review and requires approval from the prime minister. Pakistan faces a 29% tariff due to a trade surplus with the U.S. of about $3 billion. The idea is to buy U.S. crude equivalent to Pakistan's current imports of oil and refined products, which amounts to about $1 billion of oil. Several other countries, including India, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan, are also looking to increase their imports from the U.S. to ease trade surpluses.
