A new study by archaeologist Sally Foster has traced the fate of 17 missing fragments from the Stone of Destiny, a centuries-old symbol of monarchy used in coronations since the 13th century. The fragments, broken off during a botched theft in 1950 and subsequent repair by Robert Gray, were distributed as keepsakes to family, politicians, and journalists over several decades. Foster's research reveals the whereabouts of half of the 34 known fragments, with some now held in museums or as family heirlooms, while the rest remain unaccounted for. The main stone, inscribed with a clue to the number of pieces, is now on display at Perth Museum, and Foster hopes more information will surface about the missing pieces.
