In 1933, Dr. Max Naumann led an organization of assimilated German Jews who believed that loyalty, conformity, and rejection of Jewish nationalism would protect them from Nazi persecution. Despite mounting evidence of antisemitic violence and exclusion, Naumann and his followers urged Jews to trust the new regime and denounce Zionism, seeing Jewish self-defense as a threat. Their hopes proved tragically misplaced, as the Nazis ultimately dissolved their group and Naumann himself died at their hands.

The article draws a parallel between this historical mindset and the attitudes of some contemporary Jewish leaders in the West, who respond to rising antisemitism with appeasement and a desire to blend in, rather than assertiveness or solidarity with Israel. It argues that history shows such strategies do not guarantee safety, and that true security comes from self-defense, pride, and a strong connection to the Jewish state. The author warns that repeating the mistakes of the past is a dangerous delusion, and calls for a renewed commitment to Jewish dignity and self-protection.
