Israeli researchers at Ben-Gurion University have identified a unique set of immune cells that could play a key role in slowing the aging process. Led by Professor Alon Monsonego, the team discovered that cytotoxic T helper cells are capable of targeting and eliminating senescent cells, which accumulate with age and contribute to inflammation and disease. Their findings, published in a leading scientific journal, suggest that these immune cells are more prevalent in people who live exceptionally long and healthy lives. The research opens the door to potential new diagnostics and therapies aimed at extending the period of healthy living, rather than simply increasing lifespan.
