A United Nations Security Council delegation visiting Lebanon has urged both Israel and Hezbollah to adhere to the November 2024 ceasefire agreement. The delegation emphasized the importance of Lebanon maintaining exclusive control over weapons and recognized progress made by the country this year. Despite the ceasefire, Israel has continued to target Hezbollah positions, citing ongoing military activity by the group near the border. The Lebanese government, under international pressure, has pledged to disarm Hezbollah, with the army preparing to dismantle its military infrastructure along the border by the end of the year.
The Security Council reaffirmed its support for Lebanon's territorial integrity and political independence, stressing the need for full implementation of the 2006 truce agreement. Tensions remain high following recent Israeli strikes, including the elimination of a senior Hezbollah official, and Hezbollah has vowed to respond.
