Iran has executed Mohammad Reza Ghaffari, the leader of a large-scale investment scam that defrauded tens of thousands through a fraudulent car-buying network. Ghaffari's company promised vehicles at below-market prices, later expanding into real estate and other investments, but delivered cars to only a small fraction of customers. The scheme, which began in 2013, involved around 350 million dollars and led to over 28,000 complaints. Despite court efforts to allow repayment to victims, Ghaffari failed to settle his debts, resulting in his execution. The case highlights Iran's frequent use of the death penalty, including for major economic crimes, and the severe impact on victims, both financially and psychologically.
