Indian women are travelling more, booking solo and choosing beaches over hills, data shows - The Times of India

Indian women are travelling more frequently and independently, with solo travel bookings rising nearly ninefold year on year on a leading travel fintech platform. Women are increasingly planning their trips end to end, taking charge of destinations, transport, stays and experiences across domestic and international journeys.

Beach destinations dominate preferences, with more than 80 percent of domestic leisure bookings focused on coastal locations such as Goa and Port Blair over hill stations. Internationally, places like Krabi, Phuket, Bali and other island destinations are seeing strong growth in solo female travellers. Spiritual travel also remains popular, with younger women exploring scenic temple towns while millennials prefer established pilgrimage centres.

Younger travellers are driving value-focused and culture-led trips, often choosing mid-range stays and heritage cities while exploring lesser-known destinations and weekend getaways near major cities. Millennials, in contrast, show the strongest growth in premium travel, with a third opting for luxury stays and favouring iconic domestic and international cities for milestone trips.

Southeast Asia and the Indian subcontinent account for nearly two thirds of outbound trips by women, helped by easy visa access. Emerging destinations in Central Asia and Eurasia are also gaining traction, while Europe remains a selective, aspirational choice. Overall mobility is rising sharply, with significant increases in train, bus and flight bookings, reflecting higher travel frequency and stronger regional movement.
