Ministries previously held by Shas transferred to pair of Likud ministers

The government has temporarily reassigned the ministerial portfolios previously held by the Shas party, following its resignation over the failure to secure a military service exemption for the Haredi community. Justice Minister Yariv Levin will serve as acting minister for the interior, religious affairs, and labor ministries, while Tourism Minister Haim Katz will oversee the welfare and health ministries. The redistribution has faced opposition from several cabinet members, who argue that concentrating too many responsibilities on a few ministers could undermine effective governance. Shas is reportedly content with Levin's temporary stewardship but remains unwilling to return to the government without progress on an enlistment bill. Meanwhile, other vacant positions left by the departure of United Torah Judaism are still being filled, with some appointments drawing controversy.
