Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, has called on the Security Council to take decisive action against Israel's planned occupation of Gaza city, warning that the move is intended to erase Palestinian presence. Ahmad urged the Council to impose consequences on Israel if it ignores international demands, highlighting the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in Gaza due to ongoing bombardment, blockade, and deprivation.
The ambassador described the situation as a campaign of ethnic cleansing and criticized the so-called humanitarian system as a 'cruel illusion,' with famine rampant and civilians at risk even while seeking food. Pakistan, which does not have diplomatic relations with Israel, reiterated its condemnation of the war on Gaza and called for an immediate ceasefire, release of hostages, exchange of prisoners, and protection of Jerusalem's holy sites.
Ahmad also called out countries providing political, military, or diplomatic support to Israel, stating that they share responsibility for the crisis and must reconsider their policies. He urged the Security Council to consider enforcement measures, including the deployment of an international protection force, to safeguard the besieged population.
