Members of the ultra-Orthodox community are planning a large prayer rally at the entrance to Jerusalem on Thursday afternoon to protest military conscription. The event, led by Rabbi Dov Lando and supported by leaders from several ultra-Orthodox factions including Degel HaTorah, Agudat Yisrael, and Shas, was postponed from its original date due to internal disagreements. The rally comes amid heightened tensions over the arrest of yeshiva students who have ignored enlistment orders, as well as ongoing disputes in the parliament regarding legislation on ultra-Orthodox enlistment. Shas recently relinquished its committee chairmanships in protest, and a new draft bill on the issue is expected to be presented soon.
