Ex-Mossad chief Yossi Cohen rules out running in next election

Former Mossad chief Yossi Cohen announced on Monday that he will not run in the upcoming election, ending years of speculation about his political ambitions. Speaking at a conference in New York City, Cohen stated, 'The answer is no. Not now,' but left open the possibility of reconsidering in the future. Cohen, who has been closely linked to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and was once seen as a potential successor, revealed that his wife opposed his entry into politics and that recent events have changed the political landscape.

Cohen's remarks mark a shift from previous statements, including a June podcast where he expressed interest in leading the country and recent interviews suggesting Netanyahu should step aside. Reports had indicated Cohen was considering forming a new political party and forging alliances with other prominent figures, but he now appears to have put those plans on hold. Elections are set for October 2026, unless the Knesset is dissolved earlier.
