Full text of top IDF lawyer's resignation letter over detainee abuse video leak

Maj. Gen. Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi has announced her resignation as Military Advocate General after thirty years of service, citing the recent controversy surrounding the investigation into detainee abuse at the Sde Teiman base. In her letter, she emphasized her commitment to upholding the rule of law within the army, describing legal oversight as essential for the military's strength and resilience, even during times of war.

She detailed the challenges faced by her unit, including personal attacks and threats against officers, following the decision to investigate alleged violence against detainees. Tomer-Yerushalmi expressed concern over a campaign of delegitimization targeting military law enforcement, which she said has harmed the army's image and morale.

Taking responsibility for releasing information to the media to counter false accusations, she stated that this sense of accountability led to her decision to step down. Despite the difficult circumstances, she conveyed pride in her service and gratitude to her colleagues and subordinates.
