Gafni slams Ben Gvir, Liberman over claim of deal with Arab MKs over terrorist death penalty bill

Degel HaTorah chairman Moshe Gafni has strongly criticized National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and Yisrael Beytenu leader Avigdor Liberman, after both accused him of opposing a bill to impose the death penalty on terrorists due to an alleged political arrangement with Arab lawmakers. Gafni dismissed the claims, stating that Ben Gvir and Liberman are resorting to personal attacks because they cannot engage with Degel HaTorah's principled opposition to the death penalty for terrorists.

Rabbi Dov Lando, the spiritual leader of Degel HaTorah, instructed the faction's lawmakers to vote against the government-backed bill in the Knesset. While Degel HaTorah's stance is clear, other ultra-Orthodox factions, including Agudat Yisrael and Shas, have yet to announce their positions.

Ben Gvir and Liberman responded with harsh criticism, accusing Haredi politicians of making deals with Arab lawmakers and avoiding responsibility by deferring to rabbinic authority. The debate comes ahead of a key vote in the Knesset on the controversial death penalty bill.
