Carolyn Gelenter, the daughter of a Holocaust survivor, was arrested in central London after joining a protest against the government's ban on Palestine Action. The demonstration, attended by around 100 people, saw police outnumbering protesters and targeting those holding signs in support of the group, which was proscribed earlier this year following a break-in at a military base. Gelenter expressed deep concern about the erosion of democratic rights in the United Kingdom, emphasizing her refusal to remain a bystander given her family's history and the current political climate.
Another protester, Gil Murray, was also arrested, highlighting the increasing criminalization of peaceful protest and the shifting attitudes toward dissent. Organizers and participants condemned the government's actions as authoritarian, insisting that protest is not terrorism. Legal challenges to the ban are underway, with a court hearing scheduled for next week.
