Jewish book subscription program pushes back against publishing industry antisemitism

A new book subscription program called Nu Reads has been launched by the Jewish Book Council in response to rising antisemitism in the publishing industry, including blacklists and boycotts targeting Jewish authors. The initiative aims to support Jewish writers, demonstrate the value of Jewish literature to the industry, and foster a sense of community among readers. Subscribers receive a Jewish-authored book every other month, along with letters from the authors and discussion materials, creating a collective reading experience. Organizers hope the program will encourage Jewish authors to continue writing authentically and help readers engage in meaningful conversations about Jewish identity and belonging.
