Syrian leader Ahmed al-Sharaa has introduced new banknotes that will replace those featuring the former ruler and his family. The redesigned currency, which will enter circulation on January 1, displays symbols of Syria's agricultural heritage such as roses, wheat, olives, and oranges. This move is part of a broader effort to stabilize the Syrian pound by removing two zeros from its denominations, a process known as redenomination. Sharaa described the new notes as a symbol of national renewal and a departure from the previous era.
