The new United States ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, has emphasized a renewed commitment to deepening trade and economic ties between the two countries, despite ongoing tensions over India's continued purchase of Russian oil. Gor, who also serves as the special envoy to South and Central Asia, announced that India will soon be invited to join a United States-led initiative aimed at building a secure silicon supply chain, alongside other key partners such as Japan and the United Kingdom.
Negotiations for a bilateral trade agreement have faced delays, largely due to disagreements over energy sourcing and concerns about protecting Indian farmers and industries. However, both sides remain engaged, with the next round of trade talks scheduled soon. Gor highlighted that, beyond trade, cooperation will continue in areas like security, technology, and health, reflecting the broad scope of the partnership.
