Former IDF chief Herzi Halevi called to give testimony in Bild leak affair

Former Israeli military chief Herzi Halevi has been called to testify in the ongoing investigation into the Bild leak affair, where aides to the prime minister are suspected of leaking classified intelligence to a German newspaper. The leak, which took place in the summer of 2024, is believed to have been an attempt to sway public opinion regarding hostage negotiations with Hamas.

Prime Minister Netanyahu's chief of staff, Tzachi Braverman, has also been questioned over allegations that he tried to obstruct the investigation. Eli Feldstein, Netanyahu's former spokesman and the main suspect, claimed that Braverman was aware of the covert probe months before it became public and had promised to suppress it.

The scandal erupted after the execution of six Israeli hostages in Rafah, which triggered widespread outrage and criticism of the government's handling of ceasefire talks. The leaked document reportedly aimed to shift responsibility for the failed negotiations onto Hamas.
