Israeli diplomat pledges to investigate case of Italian officers...

Israel has promised to investigate an incident in which two Italian security officers were detained at gunpoint by an Israeli soldier in the occupied West Bank. The pledge came after Italy's foreign minister summoned the Israeli ambassador, expressing strong protest and disappointment over the treatment of the officers, who were reportedly made to kneel and questioned before being released.

Israel's military said the officers were stopped due to suspicion, as their vehicle was traveling on a closed road and was not immediately identified as diplomatic. Once their identities were confirmed, they were allowed to leave, and the soldier involved has been called for a debrief.

The Italian officers, members of the Carabinieri, were conducting official activities in Palestinian territory at the time. Italy has reiterated its concerns over rising settler violence in the West Bank and called for clarification of procedures to prevent similar incidents.
