Families of sixteen Indian seafarers detained in Iran since December are expressing deep concern over the fate of their loved ones as regional tensions escalate. Iranian authorities seized the oil tanker MT Valiant Roar, alleging it was carrying illegal diesel, a claim denied by the Dubai-based operator. Ten Indian crew members have been moved to a prison in Iran, while the rest remain confined on the ship, reportedly facing poor living conditions and limited contact with their families.
The families have appealed to the Delhi high court for urgent government intervention, seeking consular access and the safe return of the crew. Company officials insist the vessel was carrying legitimate marine fuel and say the ongoing unrest in Iran has complicated legal and diplomatic efforts. Allegations of the crew being used as 'human shields' and concerns over their health and safety have intensified calls for their release.
